Saturday Marketplace

The Ladyfest Market took place on Saturday 23rd September at the Newcastle Arts Centre.

Fabulous stalls sold everything from belts, jewellery and scary dollies to fancy handmade accessories, all made by local talented female artists. It was also the place to find out what you can do to save the planet from your sofa, how to survive your period without tampons or pads, and get your hands on some fantastic zines.

Saturday Night Chill Out: Open Mic @ Betty's 9pm - 2am

Saturday night saw everyone troop from the Carling Academy to Betty's. And we mean everyone. We were expecting a handful of people, not the vast quantities that marched through the door and then squished together on every available scrap of seating and floor to hear the performances.

Thanks to everyone who played - it was a truly electric night, despite being acoustic. We heard everything from The Cranberries to the Fugees, Irish folk tunes to Swedish folk tunes. It was gorgeous.

Sunday Night: Democratic Disco @ the Jazz Cafe 10pm - 2am

Well it was supposed to be at the Jazz Cafe, but their toilets suddenly exploded so we had 3 hours to find somewhere else. Well done Georgia for rushing around and making it happen at The End!

Thanks for everyone who patiently endured Milly's rubbish DJing. Here's her excuse for the night: "I didn't have the right adaptor for her headphones so couldn't cue anything up, the CDs were messed up and playing far quieter than the MP3 player, one of the club's speakers wasn't working, and, um, I was drunk. But still you danced! God bless you."
